Russia

Thinking of Russia (prob Moscow, maybe St. Petersberg) next spring. Me, the mrs. and 2 kids (9/5yo). Anyone been? Any tips, recommendations, advice?

i was just thinking this as a destination myself, would be interesting to know

I worked with a guy from there, he says Moscow has really changed/improved a lot in the last 10-15 years, it's now an impressive modern city with lots of beautiful areas.

I've been a few times to Moscow in recent years. Fantastic city, decent transport, both airports are good enough. Uber everywhere to get around. Apple Watch works well with trains and metro.

Pre-book the Kremlin visit, also pre-book the Tolstoi. And you may want some organised tours. A river cruise is also recommended.

Great city, friendly people.

Moscow is superb the wife and I went a few years ago and loved it!

Worst part is getting a Visa in the UK to actually go!

Me at St Basils Cathedral

LOL Forgot about that. Yes the letter of invitation. Slightly bureaucratic process, I went for work and the director of the bank had to sign the letter and I required an official not a digital copy. Luckily the bank had good processes for that. Then it was a visit to the visa centre in London with a whole bunch of paperwork and then again to pick it up a week later. I went for a multi entry one.

Moscow is beautiful, but I would recommend visiting St. Petersburg. It is very beautiful and arty.

Another vote for St Petersburg, we spent 2 days there and visited The Hermitage museum & Catherine The Great's Palace on the outskirts of the city. The city is very open, wide boulevards, the river etc. Some beautiful buildings & statues as well as the obligatory Soviet housing blocks, there was even a Cold War submarine sat in a car park data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

We're thinking of spending a week-10 days, is there enough to do in either Moscow or st. Petersburg for the whole time or should we try to do both?

We were only there 2 days, not sure how child orientated a 7 or 10 day holiday there would be to be honest.
As I posted, it's a real cultural place, so much historical stuff to see. You could even go to the Kirov ballet, but would your kids want to?
I'd have a google & see whether there's a good mix of things for kids and adults to do.
Best of luck
