Hyundai i30 Issues

Hey folks,

Had plenty of AV related help and a few trades on here from many a helpful member - and now I'm hoping I can delve into the world of motoring assistance from you data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

The better half has just bought a 2007 1.6 CRDi Hyundai i30. She's had it a few days and been driving it without issue, but today the emission control/check engine light has decided to start flashing. It's going back to the dealer we bought it from on Thursday, and I have an OBD reader coming tomorrow, which should hopefully provide good insight, but does anyone have any ideas? The manual says get the Particulate Filter System (I assume DPF) checked by a dealer, so I'm suspecting a severely clogged one - we've tried the 4th gear motorway run trick but it hasn't helped.

In terms of "feel" of the car there's no signs of any misfires, it's not dropping in to limp mode, there's actually no change whatsoever in how it drives since we picked it up on Saturday, there's just the blinky light.

Cheers in advance!

If the car isn't in limp mode then the fault may not be the dpf. Does the dash display say dpf fault?
Sometimes the warning light for dpf comes on for a pressure variation which could be a pressure sensor fault or something.

Impossible to tell what the fault is without reading the codes/doing a diagnostic check...it could be anything!

No info on the dash display at all - left the battery off for 20mins and reconnected it, on next start the light came on and stayed lit until I'd turned a couple of corners, then it went back to flashing.

I'd like it to be a sensor fault to be honest - less destructive data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 I'll post up the OBD codes when I have the reader on Wednesday.

Got the codes!

p0472 Exhaust Pressure Sensor Low Input
p2002 Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold B1

I'm assuming it's a faulty or glitchy sensor, and the 2002 code has been triggered by that? If the DPF was truly clogged I'd have expected the car to go into limp mode.

Yes, I tend to agree! Try clearing the fault codes and see what happens.

A Korean diesel with sensor errors? That sounds familiar data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Which OBD reader did you get?

I found quite quickly thanks to Google that I'm not the first person to experience this data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Only a cheapy cheap one from Amazon, one of the bluetooth equipped ones. I've not even used it myself yet, I had to try and direct the boss to the location of the port over the phone. Took longer to find the port than it did to pull the codes

EDIT:

I've found a few examples of this popping up in the cold, but since we've only had the car Saturday I'm taking it back to the trader we purchased it from, if they want to clear the codes that's up to them, but I don't want to delete the evidence of a fault in case it comes back in a few months!

Quick update - the trader we bought it from put it on their scan tool last night and the DPF wasn't clogged - but the exhaust pressure sensor is stuffed, being replaced today data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I thought it might be the pressure sensor, I've had this situation on a good few cars, including my son's Golf TDi....gives the impression the dpf is clogged but it's the pressure sensor at fault.
You did the right thing not clearing the codes, I forgot you had only just bought the car!
Excellent result data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

So the replacement sensor is proving tricky to find! I've had a look round myself and I'm struggling too to be fair, eBay, Euro Car Parts and Andrew Page are all coming up nil. The trader is going to contact a dealer on Monday to see if they can get one through them, but in the meantime the OH is still without a car data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
