I prefer the Polo, wife prefers a Clio so not so simple.
Wife and son are currently visiting both dealerships this afternoon so a decision will be made this evening.
@IronGiant - All of those were ruled out for one reason or another. Most of them are simply too small or dealerships not nearby.
There's 3 adults and 2 children (and a dog) in our house, so on the very odd occasion we might all need to travel in this car we needed to go a bit bigger. Normally for 4 people it'll be fine.
^ just use the BMW Touring when you all need to go with the dog!
Hi. I've had clio's and modus's (same car really) for approx 900,000 miles and am a big fan of the engines and running gear. The insides were always a bit hard and boring but they suited me. Very reliable and cheap to run.You could do far worse.
I've recently hired a polo 1.0 for a week and liked the engine sound (although not the strongest performer). It wasn't the easiest car to get into and I found it was a bit cramped for my 6'4" frame plus the car I had was very dark inside. Not a colour scheme I could live with for ten hours a day. I think if I was going for a polo it would have to be a good trim level with a light indoor if that exists?
I am also very much not a 'Ford person'.
They seem to have come on a lot in the last ten years or so but then they really needed to.
Introduce her to the Polo GTI...I'm sure she'll change her mind...

How did the viewings go yesterday?
They both preferred the Polo which surprised me as my wife really wanted a Clio. They went to the Renault dealer first and liked what they seen, but when they went to the VW dealership my wife said when she sat in the driver's seat 'it just felt right'. My son also preferred the looks of the Polo. Both of them agreed it felt more solid.
Spanner in the works, there was a Polo Beats in the showroom with light interior (@djbsom ) that they both loved. Problem is according to the salesman there's a 6 month lead time on all Polo's!!!!
That would have ruled it out, but when they phoned me on the way home to tell me, I got onto a couple of other dealers and I'm waiting for a call back this morning from one of them who has assured me he can get me one in a couple of weeks.
Just waiting on the phone to ring now.
Edit: Just got the call and they can get me the colour and spec I wanted which is a black Polo Beats, 1.0TSI 95 hp. The one available has had front and rear parking sensors fitted as an extra which is even better as that was the only thing missing from the Polo v Clio.
It's the only one in N.I currently available so I'm going to sign up this afternoon.

They normally can; sometimes not much choice on options, but if it is before the build is confirmed you should be able to change things.
The car is already built, but is well equipped so I'm happy with the one that's available.
BTW, There's no way I'm buying a GTI as my son's first car and the small engine doesn't bother my wife.
