Managed to record a sample, is there any way I can upload or share it here?

Have you tried "Upload file" it may work for mp3s if Stuart included that functionality.

Put it on Dropbox, does this work?

First effort, recorded inside the car, starts around 7 seconds. Quite faint.

Second time I stopped and opened the bonnet, then killed the engine and recorded this much more clearly.

Wow! That's really weird. Almost sounds like the wiper motor!
I'm intrigued to know what the garage says (and hope they manage to avoid the sharp intake of breath so beloved of fitters when explaining what they've found) data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

It's under warranty. They can breathe as sharp as they want!

I've emailed the offending noise to them, will see what comes back from them tomorrow.

That noise isn't anything like the noise on my car....however, I have heard similar noises (the whirring) which is usually the motors on the climate control system closing the vents on switch off.

The squeaking noise could just be the need for lubrication on the climate control unit, but you say the noise is on the engine?

Very strange one this, would be interesting to know the true cause of the noise!

Not sure where it is to be honest.Just know that it is much louder with the bonnet open which is why that second file is so much clearer.

I bumped into my friend as I was leaving the garage, (he's one of their mechanics) and he mentioned that it might be the EGR valve.

Hoping to hear back from them today after they hear the sound files I emailed.

DrPhil Publish time 24-11-2019 23:46:07

Conclusion from the garage is that it is the EGR valve. He thinks it may need cleaned out as it is louder than it should be. I'm going to monitor it for the next week or so and get back to them.
