Civic Type R Fuel

does the civic type r need to run on high octane fuel like shell optimax or bp ultimate. or will it run ok on normal unleaded without damaging the engine.

new shape or old?
I dont know if this is what your meant to use but i had a friend with an 04 type r and he just used normal fuel.

It'll run fine on ordinary unleaded.

My 04 Type R runs fine on regular unleaded.Perhaps get a few more mpg with premium unleaded but not worth the price difference.

Tend to get about 280 miles out of a £40 tank.

No road cars really 'need' to run on the high octane stuff (98)..... It does help your engine last a little longer and maybe a few more mpg's, my car maintenance tutor reckoned it was worth while if you were planning on keeping your car until its reaching the end of its lifespan.

I want a type r you jammy data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7, my civic sport does the job for the mo tho

The ECU should be able to determine the difference in the fuel and go to a different fuel/ignition/spark map. You may find there is a slight hesitation and lack of power.

Don't have a Type R myself.

Came close but opted for the 182 instead.

Does it say anything on the fuel cap about the RON?

Personally, although my clio will run on 95, it's recommended to run on Super and indeed, runs better on it.

Not sure about the MPG, Performance etc etc but the engine is definately smoother with the Super.

If you have a car like that, don't use pikey fueldata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

It's only 2-3p more for Sainsburys 97 so no excuse.

Several pence for Shell/BP though.

danaldinho7 Publish time 24-11-2019 23:43:05

it's a whole 7p more expensive at the local Shell

Same here and thats the reason my Type-R gets normal unleaded as the difference is minimal compared to cost.Unless your track daying it and need every bit of power, dont bother.

Both of our cars carry manufacturers recommendations to use high octane petrol
