Squeaks and Rattles
Thought i'd start a thread on annoying squeaks and rattles that have come about over time within your car and maybe help others find a solution to fixing them with a view to a quieter journey on the road.I'll start..
So I have a BMW 320d - 62 plate which I've had for nearly 2 years now.
Once a few miles into a journey the drivers side door lock knob starts this annoying rattling noise. You can actually wiggle it a little in the door but when putting your finger on it the rattling stops.
Obviously the thing goes up and down every time you open the car, drive off and lock it once exited the vehicle. So anyone had a similar annoyance and was able to eradicate it.?
Cheers. My Captur school car likes to rattle the rear left seat belt buckle against the body panel just to the rear of the door.
There's a plastic strip designed to keep the belt flat on the rear seat and therefore avoid the rattle but of course it occasionally doesn't work.
It's not a loud rattle but once you notice it, it's there in your brain. It's also just a few inches out of reach from either front seat.
After a long day of stubborn, sullen students testing my patience it's almost enough to want me to shoot the car. Almost. Skoda Superb last of series 2 (3.5 years old) has a rattle developing in the centre cup holder. Closing the sliding cover stops it but I leave it open to put the phone or sunglasses case in. Smoother roads are fine but some are just the wrong kind of rough and the rattle is unbearable! I think this is what the radio volume knob is for data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Had a intermittent squeak for ages now, car has been serviced and mot'd and nothing has sorted it, it is annoying at times but with the the radio on you can't really hear it. Can you not, just do it up? ie clip it into it's buckle? At 145,000 miles, my car has more than one squeak / rattle data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Exactly what I did with minedata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 my jetta has a slight rattle in the passenger door when I'm dropping down to a lower / speed... Silicone sealant and/or anti rattle tape will easily sort any dash/trim rattles/squeaks. Any usual offenders of worn/broken clips/bushes can be replaced cheaply or fixed with the sealant/tape.
