Petrol engine - use super unleaded?

So using a petrol engine do people use super unleaded or just supermarket brand?

I'm not too bothered on the increased mpg as don't do too many, from my point of view it's the looking after the engine that I'm more concerned about.

Is supermarket petrol really not as good for cars?

The increased cost per tank is only maybe £5 for me, so if significantly better for engine maybe worth it.

Next question then is which are best or are all the same?

Have always used Sainsburys fuel as its closest and cheapest. Most the time I'm stuck in traffic or doing 30 mph so don't mind if my cars down a few bhp.

The manufacturer user manual for my car claims it's designed for optimum performance with normal fuels and premium fuels give no advantage.

Yeh not an issue to me either tbh, not a boy racer anymore ha ha. It's more to look after the engine wondering. Any mechanics ever noticed any differences, or what do you use?
Never checked they actually, will have a look see what it says good idea

Tesco 97RON or 99RON for me as recommended by VW.
My father in law works in the petroleum industry and advised me to avoid all supermarkets fuel apart from Tesco and Costco.

The additives do make a beneficial difference.

Just found this out in Vauxhall manual, says recommended 95 (standard) but 98 (super) is possible.

It's strange though as another forum has said he wouldn't use Tesco at all, yet you so from a recommendation.

Tesco Momentum 99 RON or BP Ultimate is favoured for my Golf R and supported by many more technical/mechanically minded people than me in the VW forums

Edit:

My car will obviously run on 95 RON but being a 4 cylinder heavily turnboed block with 310bhp I’ll stick to the manual and claim the fuel back anyway

Do you think a petrol turbo benefits more from super then? Mines just a small 1.4T turbo.

It seems, as I expected, that some say yes, others no, and there's no real rhyme or reason.

As my manual states above that 95 is recommended, should I stick to that?

Apart from being "better" whatever that means, what is different, just more, or better, additives in the super?
