Can anyone recommend a particular cable to get to read VAG group codes? There are many many different cables to get from eBay Amazon etc. I'm assuming you can only get VCDS from the proper place too? (Pm me if you prefer)
My old man is a mechanic, and increasingly coming up against VAG faults that can only be diagnosed with vcds, and for a sole trader (in his 60's and about to retire in the next couple of years) its prohibitively expensive to buy the snap on code readers etc.

Any advice for a technophobe mechanic? data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Hi jouster

I'm about 15 minutes from Colchester and could really do with a little diagnostic help before I arrange for a truck with a crane to lift my car somewhere for investigation (AA diagnostic wouldn't communicate with the ECU).

The background is here in the TT Forum The Audi TT Forum :: View topic - ECU Armageddon... probably!
