Adaptive suspension is strongly recommended for 19’s, my exhaust was quiet for a short while until it was gently modified. Lots of pops and bangs on the overrun in Race mode.
However depending where you live you need to consider the theft rates of the Golf R. Even dealerships are being targeted for forecourt stock and spare parts!

Done and sorted for a couple of weeks time, they wouldn't let me have it for 24hrs but they said 3-4 will be fine, that should be good enough

I’ve had my headlight washer covers stolen several times. Last idiot snapped the arms of on the holder.
I had mine since they were released. And a fantastic engine and drive train it was/is. What I don’t like about them is that for the top of the range Golf it is so common. Undoubtedly helped by £173/per month deals. Nice on the one hand but besides my first year there was no exclusivity or special feeling with it.

My current requirements are much higher than the old deals that have led to a glut of thrashed second hand R’s from when they flooded the market being so cheap as you say.

I just couldn’t when I know how much they went for.
Similar issue I’ve got with my favourite car ever our Mercedes-AMG GL class. I got a huge discount on that one. Really big. Whilst I haven’t found anything else that I like as much I can’t stomach paying full price whilst knowing what room they have on those cars. I really wished I didn’t sell that one, but it was 3 years old, father in law just passed away, we thought we don’t need it that large, and bought this pos of a Mercedes-AMG GLC unseen before it was released.
I wish I wasn’t so “tight” and just give in to the higher prices.

Well that's the last car i was a little interested in marked off my list. My local ford dealer just called to invite me down for a 15-20 minute accompanied test drive on a pre planned route //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif
I politely told him i wouldn't waste mine or their time.
I guess it'll be a choice between a Mercedes A200d sport or a BMW 120d M sport if i choose to be a little more sensible but, if i choose the fun but more expensive route, it'll be between the A35 AMG, Golf R or slightly cheaper Cooper S i think.

Just to flag there's a new 1 series due shortly (although it's going to be FWD rather than RWD). This has the benefit of some good deals being available on current stock models, although I understand that build slots are now in short supply if you wanted to custom spec something (and may be an issue depending on when you were planning on purchasing) and the last build slots for the current model are in June.

Yeah i read about the new model so i am having a look right now but I've not decided if i'll even go with a brand new car. If you know of any excellent deals on a 120d M Sport please do point me in the right direction.

Test drives change massively from dealer to dealer, not just brands. I've been in to a local Audi dealer who barely gave me the time of day. Local BMW dealer couldn't have been more helpful on my wife's 18 month old 5 series touring, letting us have it for a few days before taking it back and prepping for us to complete the purchase and collect. Tesla gave me a car for a whole weekend too.
