My BMW 740i V8 apparently could blow up anytime as the bore lining would come loose, I think there was a similar issue with the Porsche 911 996 if I recall correctly. The Nissan Navara engines would also seize according to many reports, and so on...
Like yourself, I like high mileage second hand cars...One thing I tend to do is plug in my computer and check the mileage....Never forgot one BMW a 730i which had 114K miles on the clock, yet the computer had a misfire at 226K miles...
