I hadn't used the car for a view days, but took it out yesterday. The voice control button didn't work as usual.... until I stopped at traffic lights and the stop start mechanisim kicked in. And since I'm trying to find a connection with ANYTHING I tried the voice control button again, and it sprung into life. I was then able to request many tracks from USB, make calls etc without any problem. So the button is not the problem.
Sadly when I returned to the car later it wasn't working again.
I'm convinced there's some chain of events that must take place for it to work... whether that's activating door locks by the door or remote, whether its when using SatNav, whether its with Stop Start disabled.. or anything. Its definitely a software issue.
I also wonder if its linked to a lack of memory.. perhaps too many entries in the phonebook?
Abnyway, I suspect Ford could fix it by connecting the car to one of this diagnostic machines and clearing an error code or something, but its obviously some pretty rubbish coding. Had our 2016 switch replaced under the 3 year Ford warranty. Failing that I would have tipped it out for a look see with some switch cleaner. As the car is only just outside warranty you might try asking the dealer to see what goodwill you can get towards the repair cost. I don't think this is a physical switch problem, because when it works it works perfectly until the car is turned off. Then its chances of working the next time the car is used seams to be down to the wind blowing from the east, and the last person I spoke to having a name with the letter S in it. I'm impressed it worked as long as it did being a ford, sorry if that doesn't help.
