Selling a car

Hi, my wife is selling her Corsa as we're due our first baby at the end of the month and won't be needing two cars for a while. Neither of us have sold a car before, only part-ex'd at a dealership, so I was wondering what the best route is for selling this one on. It's low-mileage, good condition and a very unique paint job so I don't we'd have trouble getting some interest.

The dealer we bought from offered a pittance (as expected), webuyanycar valued it nearly a grand more, and Auto Trader valued it over a grand more than that. We could do with the extra money, but my wife is really worried about getting scammed and isn't keen on the hassle of having to deal with buyers questions, no-shows etc. Should we stick with webuyanycar or is Auto Trader worth a punt?

Thanks in advance!

Webuyanycar will no doubt offer less than the quote. They offered us £900 online and after “inspection” offered £500 - we got £1500 for it after two weeks on autotrader.

Using common sense should prevent scams. Perhaps you could sell it for her? She’s probably stressed due to the baby.

I think you've answered your own question there?
How long would you take to earn a grand?

Tips are readily available.

WBAC will knock you down unless you've noted EVERY little chip, ding and scrape when you got your quotation online. And even then, they'll try and find something. That's not to say it isn't a good option, just go in with an absolute minimum you'll accept and walk out if you don't get it.

You could try evans halshaw as well they do the same service as wbac.

They play the same tricks as wbac though. Offered me much less than they offered me online when I got there.Citing lack of full service history, even though I had ticked the no service history box on the online form. Having said that they still paid out a lot more than wbac's initial offer.

I've used sellcar.co.uk before for a high value Mercedes GLS. Way more than the dealer and WBAC. They were picky during the pickup, but so would I be considering the value involved. But as I described it honestly they ended up paying bar £250 for what they quoted...

Its difficult to recommend without knowing the age and anticipated value.

Local newspapers are good if really cheap, Gumtree and Pistonheads if in the £2k to £4k mark, Autotrader above this and all of the above assumes you decide to not go down the WBAC type route.

I avoided recommending an auction site as you will likely encounter time wasters which you are looking to avoid.

Unless i stood to be paid a minimum £500 more than the online sites i would go down this route. By the time you extend insurance, tax, answer questions, wait for time wasters, risk uninsured test pilots, verify payment validity and so on the gap has shrunk significantly.

Always worth trying a few local dealers , my nearest one are pretty good for buying cars off me at decent prices.HPI valuations is a good indicator of what sort of price to expect.
Otherwise the below i always try first as they are free to advertise.

FB marketplace
Gumtree
Pistonheads

Some tips
Give it a proper clean inside and out, back to black on the rubbers, tyres etc just make it look smart and cared for.

Lots of pictures in a nice open space with nothing left inside the car and i always try and list its history and recent work ive had done on my adverts. How long left on the MOT, if not long might want to get it done .When was it last serviced ?Oh and make sure the advert describes all the features , model and spec etc
