Peugeot 208 GTI knocking from front suspension.
My middle Son's 208 GTI has developed a knocking noise coming from the front drivers side suspension which is prevalent when going over bumps. It's been in the local garage and they were convinced it was the drop links which they duly changed but the noise is still there, the garage inspected the car over a two day period but couldn't find the problem. To me the knocking sounds exactly like worn drop links.
He hasn't been charged for any of the work thus far. I suspect it's the top suspension mount?
Has anyone got any ideas of what it could be? I'm tempted to get the garage to change the top mounts and see if it cures the issue.
The car has 37k on the clock.
Thanks in advance. Suspension struts (shock absorbers) can cause a knock that sounds almost exactly like drop links and would be the first thing I'd suspect for that sort of noise. I've got a 208 gti and this is a very very common issue, almost all gtis have their front suspension changed in the first year of life, if under warranty get them to change both sides and also ask to repack the replaced top mounts with grease otherwise you'll get squeeky steering soon after. (it's the internals of the struts that fail)
If they refuse pop over to the 208 gti forum for hundreds of examples of failed suspension
