Peugeot 3008 vs. Lexus NX 300h
Looking at both of these and wondering if anyone has had either and can advise on their ownership experience? Not had a Peugeot before but have had Toyota's.We test drove both and I prefer the Pug but my other half prefers the Lexus. Here's what we thought:
Peugeot 3008 (2.0 diesel GT auto EAT6)
Powerful engine (faster)
Has more toys
More economical
Looks like a proper 4x4
- All touch-screen controls
- Seats not as comfy
- It's French!
Lexus NX (300h electric hybrid auto)
Lovely inside
Seems better built
Lexus reliability
Sports seats are very comfy
- Noisy engine (slower)
- Not as agile
- Looks like a jacked up estate Haven’t owned either. What’s your daily driving?
Presumably they’re both in the same price range. Daily driving is mainly town but once a week there is a longer 16 mile round trip on dual carriageways, and every other month a motorway journey. About 10k miles per year in total.
Price and mileage is the same but the Lexus is a year older. Wouldn't touch a French diesel with that sort of usage. I'd go Lexus or petrol 3008. If you can get on with that transmission and engine the Toyota lexus could be more reliable in the long term but for a car to go on long journeys its got to be Peugeot diesel everytime . Any diesel.
RAV 4 hybrid could be an alternative. Not particularly bothered about going electric, there's also Lexus NX 200T which is petrol only and much faster but the economy takes a hit.
Any reason to avoid a French diesel or any diesel though? Is it because diesel is continually being talked down as the devil's brew? I've not owned a diesel before but the Pug drove great, much better than the Lexus. It's the Devil's Brew data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
(Bought a Skoda Octavia 2.0 VRS diesel earlier this year and I love it). Not great for short runs/traffic/town usage. Dpf will get clogged easily. A petrol will offer better economy given your usage. Peugeot do a nice 1.2 turbo, look for that one. I have the Citroen equivalent and love the engine (1.2 3cly turbo), my car is just over a year old and just about to click up 23k, with the turbo it's effortless driving in all conditions, just have to use the gearbox. Nice and quiet with a great growl on hard acceleration, plus an average of 40 mph on long runs and I don't hang around.
