Break discs
Hi allJust wondering as the cars mot is due
Are the break discs in the pictures likely to fail?
Thanks Depends how deep that lip is on the edge of the brake disk.If it's 2 or 3mm they may suggest replacement/resurfacing or it may just be an advisory. It also depends on whether they are solid or ventilated.Solid disks can be resurfaced rather more easily than ventilated. From your images the brake discs look ok. pics a bit deceptive, but if the lip looks as deep as it is i'd be changing them.. There is a spec for every car for the minimum thickness of the brake disc. You can check it with a pair of calipers.
Some discs have a mark which when it disappears the disc needs replacing.
Edge lips can be ground/filed off.
You only resurface if there are deep grooves or warped. TBH it usually takes a stack off the disc though and reduces the life expectancy dramatically. Is resurfacing wort it considering how cheap brake discs generally are unless you have some exotic performance vehicle... Thanks all
I have been looking at the past MOT history fro the car
For about 5 years running there were advisors on the front discs, the last couple of MOTs they have not been mentioned.
However looking at them, I doubt they have been put on there within the last couple of years!
I have had a quote for about £150 supply and fit, so if it fails next week I definitely get them done. Knowing my luck it will pass on this, but fail on something I haven't thought of! LOL

Offside Front Windscreen has damage to an area less than a 10mm circle within zone 'A' (8.3.1a) They may well have changed testing stations and the new station didn't think they were as bad as the first.I've found advisories come and go depending on where I took a car. The MOT shouldn't be the measure for when you change brake wearing parts. Do you know when the brake fluid was last changed?
Strictly speaking when the car is serviced the brake wearing parts should be in a condition to last until the next service. Hi ,
Like most things however its all a little last minute. It, not the car I uslaylut drive, it belongs to the Mrs and was a lot of agro when first purchased.
I only noticed that they looked a little past their prime the other day.data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
