I've been speaking to Thinkware. Apparently some smartphones which have mobile data 'on' can get a bit screwy during live view.

They were adamant that the card should not have been removed when the camera was on. I have been very lucky that they didn't corrupt the card.

May I suggest it's likely that it's policy to disable dash cams and it was only noticed when someone came to give it a test drive? If however they damaged it, then they need to compensate you for it.Better yet, if that's their policy, they should ask the owner to disable it before handing over the keys.

I've decided that in future I will be switching it off before handing over the keys. The OFF button is below and to the right of the card slot they managed to find. Annoyed that they couldn't just switch the thing off.

I'll point out "The dashcam has been switched off and you do not have my authority to touch it".

Aside from that they carried out the work perfectly. They even washed, dusted the dashboard and vacuumed it out.

Have had my car serviced twice since fitting a dash cam at a dealership with no problems. In fact the first time they tucked the cables for the dash cam behind the trim for me to hide them.

I've had one service and four tyres fitted. But this is the first time anyone has dicked around with the dashcam.

I think with GDPR it'll be something which gets more and more commonplace.

All they need to do is obscure the camera's view with a suction cup on the inside or outside of the windscreen.

And the audio?

Leave the radio on

All day?

I presumed the dashcam would only be recording when the technicians have the ignition on.
