Just to emphasize, you need to turn the ignition on with one key - which means leaving it in its slot overnight, then disconnect the battery. Hopefully you can lock the doors manually with the other key, as the central locking won't work without battery power.
Next morning re-connect the battery (ign still turned on), take the key out, and all should be well data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7. All good to know - if it ever happens to us - having run XC90s for over 13 years now, and a V50, and currently a V60 too - we've never had this problem. But good to know a possible 'cure' if it does happen in the future - though, if Volvo don't make an 'affordable' EV in the next couple of years, we may switch brands anyway! Hi, volvo v50 2010. Same issue as others, went shopping, locked car, came back, key fob had stopped working. I tried the various on off 5 times pressing buttons etc, none worked. I was about to try the ignition on, disconnect battery thing from above. Before I did that, I just disconnected the battery WITHOUT turning the ignition on (key fob just loose in my pocket). Left battery disconnected for about 2 mins, then reconnected. And the fob worked!! Hope this helps someone else. Hi all, my key fob for s40 2009 has stopped working the car is locked I dont have a spare and no way to get the car open as far as I know. Anyone any ideas what I do to get to the bottom of this problem quickly and cheaply if possible. Really worried. Thankfully car on the driveway. I'd be surprised if it didn't have a hidden key in it? See here:
You pull out the key on the split ring. I have a XC60 and the remote opening wasn’t working too good, Volvo fixed the sensor above the rear view mirror. I find it operates the central locking and the boot if required much easier if I point the fob upwards when opening or closing. Fab. fix. Key fob do go out of sync by the very nature of how they work. The code constantly change if the key isactivated away from the car (like being in your pocket) the codes become to far apart they stop working.
Great to hear there is a simple fix
