A Beautiful Story of Acceptance and Change
The story of Henry Green is heart-wrenching and beautiful; a boy growing up in New Haven, CT, living around gang-violence and close family. He has to straddle the line between his "renegade" tendencies and his desire to do well in school and life.Henry tells his story about growing up, making friends, discovering his passions, and how it all comes crashing down when he gets shot for standing up to a group of armed robbers. He describes his rehabilitation process and life after the event through a monologue, which is visually desaturated, accompanied with steel guitar riffs (played with a slide), and other general playing. The music cuts out when something impactful or important is going to be said, and it really helps recenter focus on his tale.
Overall, this is a great documentary about how you can have different sides of you, but you don't have to choose one or the other, you don't have to deem one correct or incorrect: they're all you. We won't find true acceptance and peace unless we can somehow collect all our "personalities" and let them work together as one. Inspiring film!
