Sadly, another unwatchable show from Sci-Fi

I was hoping. I really was.

The previews made it look like this show had potential, but alas...

The Dresden Files fails in the same way most new series on SciFi fail: it is basically unwatchable.

Forget the fact that besides the excellent lead actor, the rest of the cast is particularly bland and poorly chosen (make another exception for Terence Mann who is only hampered by bad directing, not by lack of talent).

Forget the bland photography that makes it look like another cheapo SciFi Channel production.

Forget the bland lines and the plodding plot.

Basically all this is nothing compared with the fact that watching the Dresden Files gave me a headache.

Apparently, the director, whatever his name was, thinks that hand-holding the camera for every shot is akin to great directing.

Maybe he took his cue from another disastrous SciFi production, the equally unwatchable Battlestar Galactica (or Shakystar Crapotica as I saw it referred to on the web) and thinks that not knowing how to direct is high art.

But this show might have had a chance were it well directed.

But it's not, and Battlestar Galactica already is consuming every PR dollar that SciFi has to waste on bad shows...

So what's left? Another losing show to add to SciFi's dismal track record. Maybe at some point the parent company will hire executives with actual taste...

By the way, the X-Files pilot was great. The X-Files didn't get better as it went along as another reviewer mentioned. It started out great and stayed great for four wonderful seasons. After that, it was all downhill.

The Dresden Files started at the bottom of the hill. I don't think it will climb it.

score 2/10
