Everybody lies...
I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I hadn't heard anything about this show I just liked the thumbnail on Netflix and saw that it had Will Arnett in it and Wally Phister was a Producer and Director of the first episode, so I knew it would look beautiful. This show is absolute perfection, Will gives a genuinely moving performance. Venice Beach itself becomes a character that guides the viewer through the lives of these broken souls who make their lives there. Will, as Chip, a self help guru of sorts, dealing with his own addiction lives in a very unbelievable situation, until the story unfolds and we learn that his addiction to alcohol isn't his real problem, but he's addicted to being a martyr, he needs to be the self-sacrificing hero, which is the point where we discover the motivations behind the actions of everyone around him. I never once felt, as a viewer, that I had to suspend my disbelief to buy into the realities of Chips life.
Beyond all of that, This show has the best soundtrack on television. This has joined Master of None as one of the best dramatic comedies on television.
Perfect and absolutely haunting, I'm surprised that there is not more hype about this show.
