Definitely the worst of the Sonic cartoons
I'm a real 90's kid and Sonic was a big part of my childhood. However, in the late 90's, I grew out of Sonic and moved on. Now that I'm in my mid 20's, I love taking trips down memory lane and by watching the first two Sonic cartoons and playing the games I'm back to being a Sonic fan.The first two cartoons were great. "Adventures" was a little too goofy, but was entertaining nonetheless. Satam is the best of the bunch because it was more serious and exciting. The whole story of the animals rebelling against Robotnik is fantastic and made the show very exciting. The only thing I did not like about it was Antoine.
And then you have Underground. Boy was this show terrible. I saw all 40 episodes on Youtube and I hated it.
What's wrong with it? Well, let me explain:
It has the same plot as Satam. Robotnik has taken over the world and the animals have to stand up to him. We've seen it already and it was done well the first time.
The animation is lazy. The first two shows had their animation problems here and now, but at least they were entertaining. The animators of this show didn't even care.
The songs made me want to vomit. Sonic and cheesy songs do not mix. But they're not as bad as the songs in Sonic R. (vomits)
The colours were dull. I know it's not supposed to be bright and colourful due to Robotnik taking over the world, but Satam had a great mix of colourfulness and darkness. We have to look at grey, orange and purple throughout.
Now, this is the first of the American Sonic cartoons to feature Knuckles and his episode was the first I saw of this show. My friend and I were so excited. "Finally, a Sonic cartoon with Knuckles in it!" we cried with joy. But there was one problem. He was awful.
He was fat and his voice was terrible. The actor who played him also played Coconuts in "Adventures." Knuckles with a whiny voice does not work. At least his voice in Sonic Heroes was great.
Also, Jim Cummings did a great job playing Robotnik in Satam with that ultra cool voice. Gary Chalk who played Grounder in "Adventures" played Robotnik in this one. His voice sounds strained and uncool.
And the last episode was just lazy. I guess the makers of this show knew it sucked, so they just ended the series in the laziest way possible thinking no-one would care. And they never did find their mother.
Throw in some really bad dialogue and boring story lines. You've got a show that is far from Way Past Cool.
