Haunting, Tender, Vicious

The Gloaming is a celebration of brave story telling. The makers of this series, have taken bold risks in taking the genres of Crime Drama and Horror and exploring a history of murders over generations that, unashamedly, is not only linked to a convict past but the world of Paganism and in particular Witchery. Some of the performances in this series are extraordinary. It's not really fair to call anyone out but I would watch a second time just to see the captivating performances of Rena Owen and Annie Finsterer. For me what made this series work is the fact that the Showrunner, Vicki Madden, is writing about a place she has grown up in, it isn't telegraphed or up in bight lights, it's layered, you can feel it in the way the story is told. And full credit to Marden Dean for making Tasmania look as good as it does.
