Corny, yet smart!
Watching the classics is always something to remember by. But if a spoof of the classics is made, you be looking forward to laugh you way onto the floor. "The Cheap Detective" combines the works of "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon" and put in on this hilarious movie. Here you got this Bogey wannabe named Lou Peckinpaugh(Peter Falk) who investigates the death of his partner. There you have all of these oddball characters who are indeed unbelievably hilarious. The grieving widow Georgia Merkle(Marsha Mason) who she had a affair with Lou. Then there are other different dames Lou encounters with, one of them is the same name as the cartoon character Betty Boop, instead she is called Betty DeBoop(Eileen Brennan, "Private Benjamin"). This movie is non-stop funny. A great all-star cast, a terrific plot, a lot of puns, and I think the ending was something when the driver runs into the trash can and Lou and the other ladies in his life celebrate with some bubbly. This movie is not cheap, unlike the other parodies I've seen! Rating 3 out of 5 stars.score 9/10
