Better-than-average peplum
This is the only film encounter of musclebound screen legends Steve Reeves and Gordon Scott; they are both marvellous to look at, as are Virna Lisi and José Greci, for that matter. Reeves is rather stolid as the noble brother, but Scott shows a villainous side that I have never seen from him before. Thematically, the film has strong shades of "Spartacus"; obviously it is not as good, but it's well-produced (in addition to the climactic battle, there is a volcanic eruption) and, although it was written by 6 (!) different people, the story hangs together pretty well. **1/2 out of 4.score 6/10
