Very good film about one of Mother Russia's greatest Heroes.

I liked this film, as it is a riveting Russian biography about one of Mother Russia's greatest Heroes: Namely Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov and his fate project, the AK-47 assault rifle. Wounded as tank driver in 1941 during WWII, the gentle and soft spoken soldier, Mikhail Kalashnikov, sees the latest Soviet machine gun fail. As he's also an inventor, he starts looking for improvements and in 1947 ends up with AK-47 assault rifle. It is important to realise, I think, that Mikhail Kalashnikov's life has to be seen in the context of World War 2; which claimed the lives of over 26 million Russian soldiers and civilians, caused by Nazi Germany and the evil tyrant Adolf Hitler. So the whole film is somewhat symbolic, I think, that in the aftermath of World War 2 Russia's leaders regarded it as a top priority to create the most deadliest weapons to protect the late Soviet Union... Luckily though, those times are in the past. I think it is safe to say, that Russia's leaders are much more gentle and peace loving in today's Russia; promoting democracy, freedom of speech and fundamental human rights in Mother Russia. Indeed, one of Russia's greatest leaders of today, has actually a bit of a resemblance with Mikhail Kalashnikov, I think; namely Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, who has also become one of Mother Russia's greatest heroes; after surviving an assassination attempt from Russia's FSB security service. (And tricking a Russian secret agent into disclosing details of the botched plot to kill him). Similarly - just like Mikhail Kalashnikov - Russian journalist, Irina Slavina, has also become one of Russia's greatest heroes, by reporting extensively on Vladimir Putin's bad governance; her sacrifice bringing Russia one step closer of becoming a true democratic and liberal society; that will be free from tyranny and Putin's oppression. So I am sure Russia's great heroes will eventually save Mother Russia yet again - just like Mikhail Kalashnikov did - so that true democracy, freedom of speech and fundamental human rights can finally be manifested in Mother Russia :)

score 10/10
