We All Need Bagpipes and a Valentine
Just as the title says, "In the Long Run" is fixated on the journey the West African family takes to the UK in pursuit of opportunity. In mostly every episode, that phone call from Walter's mother is significant, as it is the ideal conversation that an African family abroad usually engages in with family at home: needing money, interpreting stories as verbatim (Valentine roaming the whole of England), etc.Perfect cast altogether. Soundtracks were beautifully chosen to create a euphoric, pessimistic atmosphere where a West African family tried to assimilate in a country riddled for its long-enduring past-the racism, but instead of directly exploiting such issues, Idris does an outstanding job, balancing the show with proverbs, comedy relief, personal relation and the desperate attention to move and progress, not to be distilled upon the mistakes of the past.
