Painful and recycled
Being a HUGE Josh Gates fan, I was skeptical knowing he wouldn't really be a part of the episodes (he only had maybe 90 seconds of screen time on Ep 1, but narrates much of it). Also being a fan of the paranormal, there was hope still. But alas, this show is painful to watch. It feels ultra scripted (obviously), but shows like Expedition: Unknown usually feel much more genuine, partly because of the nature of archeological discoveries, and Josh's charisma. The set up of the hosts is a ultra recycled: "he's the measured skeptic, but I'm the enthusiastic believer, and you won't believe the crazy things we get ourselves into". Seriously, it falls flat while desperately trying to be entertaining and different-neither of which occur. I likely won't be watching another episode, and can't possibly get myself to recommend it to anyone I know.
With that being said, I keep every Wednesday night open and on my calendar to watch, Expedition: Unknown, and will keep doing so. Best show on television!
