Random events and inexplicable motives

This is such a mess it's hard to know where to begin. A man escapes from a hospital with literally nothing but his gown and next time we see him he is magically in another country with a big pile of personal belongings that should have been long lost in the first country. Hundreds of people are willing to risk their own lives and kill thousands of others because, well, who knows? No motivation for the evil Iris organization is ever offered. Maybe something to do with money, but all the people risking their lives for it are doing just fine anyway. Hard to find anyone's actions believable. And the last episode is filled with random and more inexplicable plotting and plot events. I watched to keep my wife company, and the actors are likable and appealing, but the story doesn't even rise to the level of absurd.
