Of Course It's A Hit Job

Ronald Reagan won the Presidency over a hapless Jimmy Carter in 1980 then won reelection in 1984 with one of the most lopsided wins in modern history. He left office with a 68% approval rating and is revered to this day as one of the great leaders of the 20th century. Of course that means that they have to portray him as a lovable buffoon who could only regurgitate what was given to him on cue cards, had to be protected from himself by his staff and was controlled by his wife, who really held all of the power. When you can't control the man the best his opponents can do is try to trash his legacy.
If you can stomach the propaganda spouted by his detractors and some of the worst excuses for children in history there is some fascinating footage of the early Reagan years, beautifully done. Just ignore the bile and focus on the man and his wife. It's just preaching to the choir so a director can make a few bucks. True lovers of the Reagan legacy will see it for what it is, a cheap attempt to put down in death someone who they couldn't come close to tarnishing in life. Visually this series so far is a 10. As a biography it's a 1, hence my overall score of 5.

score 5/10
